“neuroscience research shows that the only way we can change the way we feel is by becoming aware of our inner experience and learning to befriend what is going inside ourselves.”

― bessel van der kolk,

the body keeps the score: brain, mind, and body in the healing of trauma

any other questions?

are you a provider or therapist that would like to work with us? Are you interested in contributing more to our project? Feel free to contact us.

we'll do our best to get back to you as soon as we can.

our mission

we are currently working to develop a new mental health treatment: biosensor-assisted art therapy.

we work with art therapists to give you a digitized way to create art with signals from your body (for example, with brain waves and heart beats).

this feedback allows you to become more attuned to both your body and mind, while also incorporating a sense of play and wonder in the process.

how it works

supercharge your mental healthcare with state-of-the-art biosensors.

we leverage existing research on:

• the benefits of art therapy on conditions like depression, anxiety, and trauma

• the benefits of body awareness on mental health to reduce ruminative thought patterns

democratizing expression

limna works to combine the two above to achieve a more cohesive understanding of the body, while also allowing for non-linguistic forms of expression.

immersive experiences

as much of it is our mission to increase mental well-being, we also consider it an imperative to democratize expression.

in making art with biofeedback, we reduce the expectation or burden of technical training that is sometimes associated with "good art", and thus, also the "inner critic" that judges the quality of art we produce.

all you need is a body (which we all have) and an open mind.

create effortless art

biosensors we work with include heart rate monitors or machines that measure your brain waves.

for example, while being led through meditation exercises, your heart rate will pulse into slower patterns on the screen by way of generative art and abstract patterns. alternatively, you can see changes to your emotional state from brainwaves painting color gradients: when you are excited, you'll see yellow and orange colors on the screen.

these two examples show how limna illustrates distinct changes that are happening in your body to a more tangible way of relating -- our platform translates the liminal and transient into the visual and artistic.
